RNLAF NIGHT OPERATIONS

Fighter planes from the Royal Netherlands Air Force have flown again at night! From Monday November 2 to Thursday December 10 2020 flights took place until 10.30 pm at the latest. The actual deployment of the aircraft during missions mainly takes place in darkness. Especially for flying in darkness, the pilot has access to sensors and advanced night vision equipment, the so-called Night Vision Goggles (NVG). Thanks to these NVGs, the kite sees everything in shades of green and the view is also limited, as if he were looking through two tubes. Training is therefore only useful when it is completely dark. Flying mostly took place over the sea, but it is also necessary to fly over land during darkness. For this purpose, use is made of the various military flying areas spread across the Netherlands
