Chinook Makes Precautionary Landing
OIRSCHOT – A CH-47F Chinook transport helicopter of the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) made a precautionary landing on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, at the GLV5 military training area near Oirschot.
The aircraft, tail number D-601, belongs to 298 Squadron and is normally based at Gilze-Rijen Air Base. The crew decided to carry out a precautionary landing after indications of a possible technical irregularity.
A precautionary landing is performed to prevent a situation from escalating into an emergency and does not necessarily indicate a serious malfunction. The landing was completed safely, with no injuries and no damage to the helicopter or surrounding area.
After inspection by the Royal Netherlands Air Force technical service, the Chinook was cleared for operation. Having been on the ground for approximately 2.5 hours, the helicopter was able to resume its mission.
The CH-47F Chinook is a heavy-lift transport helicopter used by the RNLAF for troop transport, cargo missions, humanitarian operations, and various operational deployments. The GLV5 training area near Oirschot is regularly used for military exercises and provided a suitable and safe location for the precautionary landing.
