WITTMUND SMOKERS
In August 2009 we visited Wittmund Air Base during the Squadron Live Firing exercise, which ran from July 20th till August 28th at Wittmund AB together with Swiss F-18 Hornats. The Swiss F-18’s had been trained to fire AIM-9 sidewinders at air targets, and in addition to these live firing exercise also some dogfights with the local JG-71 F-4F Phantoms were practiced over the North Sea. In this report we have focused on the mighty F-4 Phantom who are no longer active anymore in the German Air Force and are hugely missed by our reporters. For that reason a small tribute to the ever-powerful Phantoms.
