LAKENHEATH SUPERBASE FIGHTERS

An incredible fence check day at RAF Lakenheath with some good military aviation activity from start to finish. From early morning it was clear this would not be an ordinary spotting session. The familiar LN-coded McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle’s and Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II’s were active throughout the day, with multiple departures and recoveries shaking the fence line with full afterburner power.

The best part of the day was the departure of no fewer than twelve Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II’s from the Michigan Air National Guard. The aircraft were stopping over on their way to the Middle East and created an amazing sight on the ramp. Accompanying the deployment package was a Boeing C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft, adding even more atmosphere to the already busy airfield.

As if that was not enough, several McDonnell Douglas F-15E Strike Eagle’s from Mountain Home AFB were also present on the field. The Strike Eagles added a serious combat deployment vibe to the day and attracted a lot of attention from spotters along the fence.

To complete the lineup, three Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor’s from Langley AFB, carrying the famous FF tailcodes, and some HL (Hill AFB) coded F-35’s were parked on the airfield as well.

Overall, this turned into one of those good fence check days with a lot of sun  and a good ammount of jets.
